Large scale adoption of Linux by governments around the world has been going on for many years now. This trend is accelerating now as recent changes in geo-politics has led gornments to prioritise digital sovereinty. A French Revolution
French government ditches Windows for Linux on 2.5M devices
On April 10th 2026 France announced plans to install Linux on around 2.5 million devices in its civil service. There is a growing trend in official Europe to asert digital sovereignty by stopping dependence on US tech giants. This French announcement is the largest and most ambitious effort to date.
